Personal data handling and European Laws

Companies operating in the European Union are not allowed to send personal data to countries outside the European Economic Area unless they guarantee adequate levels of protection.
Concerning in particular the United States, in 2000 the European Commission and the US have established an agreement (known as "Safe Harbor") that allowed US companies to process data from European citizens within a framework of rules.
On October 6, 2015, the European Court of Justice issued a judgment declaring as "invalid" the Safe Harbor agreement.
